Calistoga

Calistoga is the northern most town in the Napa Valley and also the warmest. It is here where you will find world famous hot springs set amongst the shadow of Mt. St. Helena. The downtown has an old west / rustic feel with numerous shops, restaurants and a market to enjoy. On the outskirts of town you will find a variety of wineries ranging from the historic Chateau Montelena (which helped put the Napa Valley on the map) to the "recently" built Italian medieval castle Castello di Amorosa and everything in between.

The city of Calistoga has a population of just over 5,000 residents and experiences cool wet winters with dry warm - hot summers. The area was settled in the 1840's followed in short order by Samuel Brannon who soon created his Hot Springs Resort. Samuel Brannon is said to have been California's first millionaire. Another notable character that was inspired by this part of the Napa Valley was Robert Louis Stevenson who wrote and spent time here in the 1880's. Calistoga is also home to the famous Calistoga water company.
